Large Gems
Custom Cut Gems Small And
Large Gems
Page 1 2
A large gemstone is obviously one that
has large dimensions and a proportionately large
carat weight. If you had to cut an agate stone to a
large 18mm x 12mm oval shape and starved it to a 3 carat weight, it
would be quite useless. The gem stone weight needs to support the
large stone dimensions, if this does not happen the gem could be too
thin an fragile. It is not uncommon for jewelers to trick innocent
buyers by cutting opaque gems with insufficient
weight. When it comes to a large gemstone that is
transparent, proportionate weight is also
responsible for giving enough 'body' to the stone. In this case
facet reflections and color saturation will be influenced by the gem
depth which in turn requires stone weight.
There is no standard that can be used to
define which gem is large and which is not. Basically, the size of
any gem that can be called large would depend on a few
factors. The gem stone type, weight and quality would be
the major deciding factors. For example if you
wanted a large sapphire gem stone but did not care much about color,
clarity and transparency you could get a large sapphire that weighs
around 7 to 8 carats. The gem would be almost black and heavily
included, a large sapphire gem of this type can be even as high as
10 carats. Such a gem would cost you no more than 400 U.S$ On
the other hand if you need a good quality blue sapphire with ceylon
blue sapphire color and fairly good color saturation, expect a
size beyond 3 carats to be a large gem. Be prepared to pay out at
least 2,500 U.S$ for such a large blue sapphire gem.
We saw above how, the same gem type can
refer to different sizes as being a large gem when quality differs.
Let us now discuss how the definition of a large gem stone can
differ depending on gem stone types. A good example
is blue topaz, a stone that is available in sizes that can go as
high as 40 to 50 carats. Though that size is not very common, you
can get a 15 carat eye clean swiss blue topaz for around 200 U.S$.
So a large blue topaz gem could be in the 10 carat
and above range. Put this gem up against a ruby,
another expensive gemstone that is rarely found in eye clean quality
beyond the 1.5 to 2 carat size. A large gem with reference to a ruby
would mean a 3 carat and above gem, this with medium grade quality.
If you wanted a top quality Burmese ruby in the 3 carat range that
was 'almost' eye clean and has a good color and color saturation,
there is a very slim chance of finding one. And even if you did,
expect to pay around 6,000 U.S$ to 8,000 U.S$ for such a gemstone.
Gemstone origin can
sometimes restrict the size of a gem that can be called large. A
good example is spessartite garnet, which was
originally mined in Namibia. The gem stone was so rare that large
gems meant Namibian spessartite gemstones in the 1.5 carat and above
range! A few years later the arrival of spessartite from Nigeria
overturned the entire gem stone industry. You can now get large
spesssartite stones in the 3 to 4 carat range quite easily. However
if you want a large Namibian spessartite, be prepared to restrict
your selection to the 1.5 to 2 carat weight range. Pay a premium
price and get a stone that looks quite ordinary!
The large gems shown on our website have
been selected based on a number of factors and not merely, on
dimensions or carat weight. We can procure and custom
cut any gem that you need. If you need the stone to be
within a specific budget, give us an idea of your budget too and we
will work with you to decide on the best gem to suit your
requirements and budget.

Who Is
Kaisilver?
Having established itself as the world's
leading online custom jewelry provider, Kaisilver now extends it's
merchandise line to include gems. While there is no shortage of gem
stones in the global market, reliable sources for the retail buyer
requirements are not many. Most retail gem dealers work with limited
inventories, this reduces buyer options. Another problem with these
small dealers is the lack of information and reliability when it
comes to gem authenticity and value for money. Kaisilver with it's
wide network of gemstone mining and manufacturing resources, is the
best source for gems of all types, shapes, sizes and cuts. With a
support team that is compromised of jewelry and gemstone experts,
the advice and suggestions made by the team relate to your
requirements and not to fixed sales targets. The website shows a
small sampling of the gems that we offer. You can infact request for
just about any gem on the globe. All gems are sourced directly from
the source, closely inspected and then custom cut by our expert
cutters. With a buyer base that includes fashion models, government
officials, casino and resort owners, lawyers, financial experts,
students and professors, doctors and surgeons, sportsmen and
newsreaders we have become the preferred choice for quality gems and
jewelry. By cutting out middlemen commissions and multiple agents,
we provide great value for your money. Our large online operation
does not stop us from welcoming even the smallest order. Gold and
silver jewelry is custom made with equal attention to quality,
material and craftsmanship. You can choose from our designs or send
us detailed for the style and design that you need.
How To
Order?
The process to order gems and custom
jewelry at Kaisilver is similar. We do not expect you to make a rush
purchase. We do wish that you take the time to discuss your
requirements with our experts. They will be in a position to
provide constructive suggestions that will guide you to make well
informed buying decisions. Email all your requirements to sales@kaisilver.com provide as
much inputs as possible to help us make relevant suggestions. For
example if you are keen on getting a green gemstone but, are not
particular about it being an emerald mention this in your email. Our
gem experts might suggest a green tourmaline or even a peridot
instead of an emerald. This suggestion would reduce our profit
margins but will give you a gem that, is much cheaper and even more
durable as compared to an emerald. When it comes to
payments we offer some very suitable
options. Paypal is the preferred form of payment,
it is fair to the buyer and seller. The buyer when using paypal
never needs to reveal credit card of bank information to the seller.
We also accept direct bank transfers but prefer to
do this on a case by case basis. When it comes to online
transactions these days, both buyer and seller are afraid of
frauds. It is quite possible that you do not feel comfortable
working with us at Kaisilver. We sometimes feel a little
uncomfortable with certain transactions too and prefer to keep away
from them. There have always been fears of processing payments
through Western Union money transfers. With the latest fraud
reports, fake sellers and even fake buyers have been pulling off
many online frauds using this mode of payment. At the same time we
do understand that armed forces from the U.S who are stationed in
various global positions sometimes have no other mode of payment
besides Western Union. We therefore accept this mode of payment but
at the same time, request you to avoid this mode if you do not feel
comfortable using it. Shipping is done through
FEDEX and you can expect a production lead time of around 4 to 5
weeks from the date of order confirmation and receipt of payment.
Every jewel is fully custom made and requires the complete attention
and concentration of highly skilled craftsmen. When it comes to
gems, we could provide faster lead times and this can be discussed
for each specific order.
Buyer

been at the heart of our success. Kaisilver buyers include people

Large
Gems |
|
Most gems are sold by the carat. For example,
a good sapphire can be priced at around 450 U.S$ for a 1 carat
stone. However as gem size becomes larger there is no direct
and simple calculation to derive the price. For example, a
sapphire with the same quality but a higher carat size will
cost much higher per carat. Looking at the above example, a
large blue sapphire of around 4 carats and the same quality as
the 1 carat stone (mentioned above) would sell for around
1,000 U.S$ per carat.
While a 3 carat good
quality tanzanite would be called a large gem stone, a 2
carat swiss blue topaz cannot be called large. As blue topaz
can be found in sizes of around 30 carats to 50 carats too. So
the gemstone type would also define what a large gem would
weigh.
The quality of the gem surely needs to be considered before
you can call it a large gem stone. For example very low
quality emeralds can be purchased in sizes of around 5 to 8
carats. These are dark and dull emeralds that have no clarity
or lustre. If you compared them to a good grade emerald
weighing just 3 carats, you surely cannot say that the 3 carat
good quality emerald gem is not large.
The comparison of large gems and not large
gems needs to be limited to natural gems. If you had to
compare a 2 carat natural alexandrite with a 7 carat lab
created (fake) alexandrite, it would be a comparison with no
meaning at all.
The above classification will give you a
rough idea, your jeweler should be able to
provide more specific information depending on the type of
gemstone, quality and even origin of the gem.
Email our support team at sales@kaisilver.com if
you have any specific query or requirements. No purchase is
necessary to get the benefit of our expertise.
