Green Gemstones
Stones With Green Color Have A Steady
Demand
There are quite a few gems with a green
color. The interesting thing about green stones is that, they have
sustained a healthy demand level for many decades.
While green gems like emerald and green peridot are popular as birth
stones too, there surely are other reasons by gem and jewelry lovers
have assigned a special importance to gemstones with a green color.
Emerald is the birth stone for the month of May and peridot is the
August birthstone.
Coming back to the discussion on green
gems, there is one strong possibility for their success.
Nature represented by plants, leaves, trees and
even grass are something that almost every human being can
appreciate. You might come across a red leaf but, the thought of a
green plant brings up visions of calmness and purity. These feelings
seemed to be aroused by gems with a green color too. There is
something fresh and gentle about green colors, this is true of
greens in all shades and tones. Fashion designers have always tried
to make green a compatible mood with their dresses and trousers. For
example, a pale cream jacket when worn with a large green jade
pendant or a green emerald pendant appears simply stunning. Notice
that the dress at that point of time has absolutely no green tint to
it. The green stone in this case actually enhances the appearance of
the dress and not vice versa.
There are many choices
when it comes to green color stones, not all the choices are
priced the same. Not all these green stones have
the same hardness and durability too, you would
therefore need to know a bit about each of these green gem stones.
We are in a way, lucky to be able to clearly differentiate these
different green stones. There was a time in history when every gem
with a green color was thought to be an emerald. The rich and
powerful were not spared from this confusion too. Some of
Cleopatra's finest 'emerald' jewels turned out to be peridot
jewelry!
With so many green color gemstones,
how should you choose the right green gem stone? We
will spend some time to discuss this issue right here. Ofcourse
if a green gem was being purchased because it was a birth
stone, there is not much delibration to be done. But if you are
interested in a green gem and not sure which green stone to choose,
we can help make some useful suggestions. A green gem stone
for a man could be a peridot or green tourmaline,
green jade is a good choice too. The reason we recommend these greem
stones for mens jewelry is that they are all more stable and durable
as compared to green emeralds. You could get an emerald mens ring
but, it would be advisable not to wear this ring all the while. This
is because emeralds can get damaged with physical impact, they also
cannot withstand strong detergents and even prolonged soaking in
water can ruin the natural oils used to treat the emerald.
In some cases, the price
factor is an important issue that can influence the buying
decision for a particular green color gem stone. For example, if you
needed a 6 carat green oval shaped gemstone for a highend pendant,
we would not suggest an emerald. In this particular case, it would
not relate to durability since pendants do not have too much wear
and tear. The point is that a 6 carat high grade emerald is a very
rare gem and could be in the price range of 3,000 U.S$ to 5,000 U.S$
just for the gem stone. Comparing this to other green gems, a
peridot could come at a 300 U.S$ to 750 U.S$ price range for the 6
carat piece. Green tourmaline would be a bit more expensive at
around 400 U.S$ to 600 U.S$. On the other hand if you were willing
to accept an opaque green stone, jadeite or nephrite could be a good
choice. Remember that almost all jadeite is dyed and undyed jadeite
with good color and no surface cracks can cost almost as much as the
emerald. You should keep in mind that both jadeite and nephrite are
classified as jade according to the FTC.
The discussion gets even more interesting
if you bring in the durability factor of various
green gemstones. Durability would include the hardness factor of the
green stone and also the degree of resistance that the stone can put
up when struck by physical impact. In anycase, all gems need a far
amount of care and should not be allowed to strike or be struck by
hard objects. Many gem lovers think that high priced gems are more
durable, sadly this is not always true. A good example is emerald
which is a green variety of beryl. All natural emeralds have
fissures and inclusions, these make the gemstone prone to cracking
and breaking when struck by physical impact. Another truth about
emeralds is that over 95% of the emeralds sold today are treated
with natural oils. This practice has been going on for centuries.
The natural oils are believed to increase the strength of the gem.
What is definite is that, these oils enter the cracks and fissures
in the emerald and soften their visibility. This helps increase the
lustre of the gemstone. Anything that affects these oils or causes
them to dry up will affect the beauty of the emerald. Soaking in
water, contact with detergents for more than a few minutes, strong
chemicals and solvents and exposure to heat can all degrade an
emerald stone. Peridot is better than an emerald when it comes to
durability but, green tourmaline is the best option abong the green
stones. If you include opaque green gems then, jadeite with it's
fibrous microcrystalline structure is also tough and durable.

Emeralds have remained as the most sought
after green gems in history. In the earlier days, all green
stones were thought to be emeralds. The image shows a gorgeous
large green emerald gem. A 9mm emerald stone classifies as a
big emerald. If you are looking for a reasonably priced green
emerald gem stone, the 1,450 U.S$ price on
this emerald weighing 3 carats should
interest you. This stone is not the best emerald, it has a
good color but not much transparency. A high quality emerald
of this size would be priced at around 3,000 U.S$ and we
can custom cut one for you.

Both nephrite and jadeite are referred to
as jade. These green jade stones are jadeite and have been
dyed for color. You should know that most of the jadeite sold
today is dyed to enhance color. These gems have a size of
around 7.5mm to 8mm and are well supported by
a carat weight of around 1.5 carats per
piece. You pay a very modest price of just 6.50
U.S$ per piece for these green jade gems. Undyed gems
with this size and color could cost around 500 U.S$ to 700
U.S$ per piece. We can custom cut all stones in all sizes and
shapes for you. |

Surely one of the most durable green color
gems. This big green tourmaline stone weighs a healthy
4.5 carats. The dimensions of 13mm x
8.3mm easily classify this as a big gem stone. This
green shade makes green tourmaline a good choice for ladies
and men's jewelry. We would suggest that you create a classic
pendant with this large gem stone. Remember that we can custom
cut just about any gem that you need in the size and shape
that you require. You pay just 375 U.S$ for
this rare and stunning green tourmaline
gemstone. |

This is a dark green gem stone, called
bloodstone. This green stone is a type of jasper and is always
opaque. Many gem lovers wonder why a basically green gem, with
few red spots should be named 'bloodstone'. The interesting
origin for the name of this green jasper stone, relates to the
Christian belief that, the red spots are the blood of Lord
Christ. Directstone can provide bloodstone gems in all shapes,
sizes and colors. Shown is a 9.5mm to
10mm heart shaped gem, a weight of around
3.8 carats. This gem is purchased for belief
and tradition rather than for it's beauty. Priced at just
18 U.S$ per
piece. |

This August birth stone is a green peridot.
The good thing about this green gem is that the color of
peridot is natural and untreated. Given the color and clarity
of this green color gem stone, it is very attractively priced.
This green peridot gem has a size of 10mm x
8mm (oval) and a proportionate weight of 2.4
carats. If you are looking for a bright green color
gem stone, peridot should be among your top choices. Take just
this one gem or request for as many pieces as you need. Very
affordable at just 25 U.S$ per piece.

This is one green gem that has a dispersion
factor that beats that of a diamond. This property of
demantoid garnets make them out-glitter even a diamond.
Another green gem stone belonging to the same garnet family is
tsavorite garnet. If you are looking for a green gem stone
that is more than 1 carat in size, demantoid garnets could be
very expensive. This 5mm round demantoid
weighs 0.5 carats. You can order just one
piece or as many pieces as you want, the price per piece is
just 90 U.S$. You can also request for a
custom jewel to be made with this gem.

We do not expect the few paragraphs above
to make you a master in gemstones. But you will at least know what
to ask and discuss with your jeweler when choosing a green color
stone. There is no substitute for a good jeweler when it comes to
making a purchase, unfortunately most jewelers are interested in
grabbing an order and provide little or no support advice to the
buyer.
The Directstones project
is initiated by Kaisilver, the global leader in online custom
jewelry. The idea of this project is to provide gem lovers with
honest and clear information regarding various gems. In a bid to
encourage interest in gems and jewelry, we provide custom cut gems
of all types in all shapes and sizes. We prefer to concentrate on
small volume buyers, even buyers of single gems rather than pander
the wholesale gemstone buyers. Increasing the awareness, interest
and availability of gems at the grassroot levels is the only way to
bring the beauty and joy of gems to everyone. Your questions and
requirements are always welcome at Directstones, you need not make
any purchase to get the benefit of our expert knowledge in gems and
jewelry. Email us your queries at sales@kaisilver.com and our
team of experts will ensure that you get the required information.
Who Is
Kaisilver?
With a spectacular online track record
that extends over 8 years, Kaisilver is today widely accepted as the
global leader in online custom jewelry. A team of over 3,500 skilled
craftsmen and gemstone cutters works on all custom jewelry orders
received by us. Seven top notch designers drawn from five nations
ensure that buyer requirements are well understood no matter which
part of the globe they come from. This wide expertise allows us to
produce high end jewelry of all types, modern, traditional, historic
and even antique. The gemstones used in our jewelry are not
leftovers, they are not drawn from a fixed inventory. We have
instead developed and built a close network with the world's largest
sources for gemstone mining and manufacturing. This gives us
priority access to over 200 million carats of gems. In the majority
of cases, fresh batches of gems are first made available to us. We
then pick the cream of the lot and the remaining gems are returned
to the gem manufacturer, that is the produce that then hits local
markets in various countries.
So why then have many people not heard of
Kaisilver. The reason is simple and straight forward. At Kaisilver
we do not believe in spending big bills on advertising and publicity
gimmicks. Though we do have fashion models and sportsmen in our
customer list, we do not use them as sponsors for our custom
jewelry. We realize that expensive showrooms and commission driven
sales staff all add up on the price tag. The final buyer needs to
bear all these overheads and this reduces the material value that
the buyer derives for the price paid. We have as a policy, kept away
from hiring sales staff. All customer service requirements are made
by experts in gems and jewelry. We use customer satisfaction levels
as a bench mark to measure staff capability and capacity. So it is
customer satisfaction that keeps us in business and ensures a high
growth rate.
How To
Order?
The process to order gems and custom
jewelry at Kaisilver is similar. We do not expect you to make a rush
purchase. We do wish that you take the time to discuss your
requirements with our experts. They will be in a position to
provide constructive suggestions that will guide you to make well
informed buying decisions. Email all your requirements to sales@kaisilver.com provide as
much inputs as possible to help us make relevant suggestions. For
example if you are keen on getting a green gemstone but, are not
particular about it being an emerald mention this in your email. Our
gem experts might suggest a green tourmaline or even a peridot
instead of an emerald. This suggestion would reduce our profit
margins but will give you a gem that, is much cheaper and even more
durable as compared to an emerald. When it comes to
payments we offer some very suitable
options. Paypal is the preferred form of payment,
it is fair to the buyer and seller. The buyer when using paypal
never needs to reveal credit card of bank information to the seller.
We also accept direct bank transfers but prefer to
do this on a case by case basis. When it comes to online
transactions these days, both buyer and seller are afraid of
frauds. It is quite possible that you do not feel comfortable
working with us at Kaisilver. We sometimes feel a little
uncomfortable with certain transactions too and prefer to keep away
from them. There have always been fears of processing payments
through Western Union money transfers. With the latest fraud
reports, fake sellers and even fake buyers have been pulling off
many online frauds using this mode of payment. At the same time we
do understand that armed forces from the U.S who are stationed in
various global positions sometimes have no other mode of payment
besides Western Union. We therefore accept this mode of payment but
at the same time, request you to avoid this mode if you do not feel
comfortable using it. Shipping is done through
FEDEX and you can expect a production lead time of around 4 to 5
weeks from the date of order confirmation and receipt of payment.
Every jewel is fully custom made and requires the complete attention
and concentration of highly skilled craftsmen. When it comes to
gems, we could provide faster lead times and this can be discussed
for each specific order.
Buyer
Testimonials.
Below are a few comments from some of our
buyers. As mentioned above we have a very serious interest in buyer
satisfaction since our very existence depends solely depends on
satisfied buyers. A high degree of repeat orders and a large
number of orders being received through buyer recommendations has
been at the heart of our success. Kaisilver buyers include people
from all professions and walks of life. Fashion models, sportsmen,
politicians, lawyers, financial experts, doctors and surgeons,
members of the armed forces, newsreaders and journalists, students,
casino and resort owners make up most of our buyer
list.
